Founders message

I started training to find my own confidence. I was not born with it. I had to earn it on the mat. That experience is the reason I built this school.

At GB Bakersfield, we are here for kids who get pushed around and do not know what to do about it.

We do not hand out praise. We put students in situations that are hard, and we help them get through it.

When a child taps out, gets back up, and tries again, something shifts. They start to carry themselves differently. Their parents notice it at home. Their teachers notice it at school.

That is what we are building here. Not just better martial artists. Kids who know what they are made of.

If that sounds like what your family needs, come and meet us.

Who are we for?

Who we are NOT for?

Our standards

Three rules that shape everything we do.

Fierce Generosity

The better you get, the more you give back.

Whether it’s on the mats or behind the desk, success here comes with responsibility. Not status.

Aggressive Humility

We never stop being students.

We listen, we adjust, and we don’t pretend to have all the answers.

That goes for everyone at this academy.

Deliberate Craft

We’d rather do it right than do it fast.

Every session, every message, every decision gets the same attention to detail. If it has our name on it, it meets the standard.

Our vision

To build an academy where students become as technically sharp
as they are good to the people around them.

Values We Teach in Every Kids Session

These are the standards every child learns from day one.

Respect

Treating people how you would like to be treated.

Discipline

Keep showing up. Even when you don't want to.

Courage

Doing the thing even though you're scared to do it.

Humility

Know your strengths and weaknesses. Be willing to learn.

Kindness

Give more than you should. Even when you do not have to.

Integrity

Doing the right thing, even when no one's watching.

TEAMWORK

Make the people around you better, not just yourself.

PATIENCE

Figuring out what to do in the meantime.

What Our Students Are Saying

GB Bakersfield is an amazing place to train BJJ and everyone is so welcoming there. The academy has such a family feel to it where all levels are made to feel welcome and the level of coaching is second to none.

Common questions

Honestly, the best way is to come in for a free session and see how it feels.

We’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’d rather you found out in a trial session than signed up and regretted it.

But if you want an academy where skill matters more than size and people genuinely cheer each other on, you’ll probably know within the first hour.

Most schools won’t answer this question directly, so we will. The difference is purpose.

Every session is built around one goal: producing confident people who don’t bully others and don’t get pushed around either.

Every staff member is DBS-checked and first-aid trained, and pricing is always clear upfront with no hidden extras.

Organisation. As we’ve grown and added new programmes, keeping communication clear and bookings simple hasn’t always kept pace.

We know it, we’re working on it, and we genuinely want to hear from members when something isn’t working.

Show up regularly, respect the people around you, and be willing to learn. That’s really it.

Progress at this academy comes from trying things, getting them wrong, and coming back the next session ready to go again.

If you can do that with a decent attitude on the tough days, too, you’ll fit right in.
